Getting
Here from There
There are many ways to get to Serendipity
Boutique
Bed & Breakfast
at 2 - 4
Mount Pleasant Avenue, Beachville, Nelson, New Zealand
and they involve a variety of means of
travel, and routes.
On this page we try to give you some of the options and
their likely costs
BY AIR
There are many
discount airfares operating in New Zealand. Talk to your travel
agent or
look at some of the cheaper fares being offered online at:
Air New
Zealand (click here)
The return airfare from Wellington or Christchurch to Nelson - often with very
little notice - can be as
low as NZ$160
AirNZ Link operates direct services in and out of Nelson to
Auckland,
Wellington and Christchurch plus many other destinations
You will be surprised at
the frequency. Nelson airport is very busy.
There are flights arriving or leaving every 4.5 minutes during
scheduled hours offering 2,500 seats in and out of Nelson every day
If you live in the North
Island and are only going to spend two or three days in the Nelson region
before
returning then flying and renting a car here from around NZ$39 to $49 a day makes
good
financial sense.
It also maximises your "holiday time" in and around Nelson
If
you want to arrange a cheaper rental car in Nelson city
Serendipity
operates a complimentary pick up
or drop off service from/to the Airport.
If you intend staying in the
South Island for more than five or six days and have the time
then driving your own car and catching one
of the many Cook Straight Ferries from
Wellington to Picton becomes the more economic way
to travel - see below
BY ROAD
If you are renting a car and
want to use one of the less expensive companies check out
the three mentioned below. They
all have a number of depots NZ wide and plenty
of cars to choose from. They keep their
costs down by using three to five
year old cars but they are always clean, tidy and in good mechanical condition.
Many of them are automatics.
They will also pick you up and drop you off at major Airports all around
the
country - as well as the Inter-Island Ferry

From the South there are
three main ways people arrive in Nelson
Some come up the West Coast
from Queenstown via The Glaciers, Westport and the Buller Gorge
State Highway
six (SH6) all the way. Others from Christchurch or Hanmer Springs via the
Lewis Pass. Finally there are those
who come here from Kaikoura via Blenheim.
Nearly everyone who comes to this fair
city is planning a day, or
three, in
the Abel Tasman National Park
When you
confirm your booking let us know which way you
plan on travelling here and
we will then e-mail you a list of the special things we
have found to
see, and do
along the way as well as places to find good food or coffee.

BY ROAD & SEA
Those of you coming by car
from the North Island are going to arrive either in Picton or Nelson on one of the
five
or six ferries
currently operating. There is now a new "Strait-shipping" ferry and
the big Kaitaki plus two
"InterIslanders" that take three
hours to make the crossing.
There are a number of fare options and these range from as
little as NZ$55 per adult one way
"Super Saver" - up to about NZ$580 for two
adults and a car return "Standard"
on the 'Interislanders' or one of the
Blue Brige Ferries.
Interislander

BlueBridge
Ferries - Timetable - Fares - etc (click here)
There are many fare options -
subject to "availability" between these low and high fares.
We have
found that we can get a 33 to 50% discount off "Standard" fares quite
easily
by travelling at off peak
times and with some advance warning.
Those of
you with a rental car will most likely leave it in Wellington only to pick up
another in Picton. This practice is adopted by all the major rental car
companies
thus saving you the considerable cost of the fare for a vehicle From
Picton it is an easy one and three quarter hour drive to Nelson.
Depending on the
time of your arrival in Picton we are likely to recommend you visit
at least one or two
of the hundred (plus) wineries in Blenheim, (many with cafés and
restaurants attached),
plus craft shops and other sites to behold along the way.
We will e-mail you this along with detailed instructions on
how to
find us here at Serendipity
when you confirm your booking
